What to Expect

Our goal at Sunset Veterinary Care is to provide the most peaceful transition for your pet in the comfort of your home. During our initial phone consultation we will gather necessary information to ensure that the euthanasia process is as peaceful as we can make it for both you and your pet. Upon arrival at your home, we will together continue to try to create a peaceful environment for your pet. I will take care of some paperwork, finalize any decisions, and take care of the payment. Once you and your pet are settled we will administer an initial medication cocktail to slowly take away pain or discomfort that your pet may be feeling, encourage relaxation, and get your pet in a very comfortable anesthetic sleep. During this time you may talk to and love on your pet and comfort them as they slowly relax. Following this, a final injection will be given to help your pet peacefully transition and pass.

Depending on what you decide is best for you and your family, we will assist in the aftercare services, ensuring always to extend respect and integrity in what we do. If you choose, a lock of fur will be collected at your home for you as a keepsake. Additional memorials, including a paw print, are available to memorialize your pet if you choose.

After the appointment, we will communicate with your pet’s regular veterinary team to notify them of your pet’s passing. Pets weighing more than 60 lbs, may necessitate assistance in transferring your pet to the vehicle. Pets greater than 100 lbs, may necessitate assistance of more than one person to transfer pets to the vehicle.
